Overtime Cost Calculator
True fully-burdened overtime cost per hour — and the weekly hit to margin.
How do you calculate the true cost of overtime?
Multiply base wage by the overtime multiplier (usually 1.5×) to get overtime wage, then apply your burden rate (taxes + comp + insurance + benefits) on top. The difference between fully-burdened overtime and fully-burdened regular time is the true premium per hour.
Inputs
1.5× federal minimum; 2× for double-time.
Cost impact
Fully-burdened OT rate
$56.70 /hr
+$18.90 premium vs regular ($37.80/hr)
This week
$567
Premium (extra vs regular time): $189
How this calculator works
Regular burdened rate = wage × (1 + burden %).
Overtime burdened rate = (wage × OT multiplier) × (1 + burden %). Payroll taxes and workers' comp apply to the higher overtime wage.
Premium per hour = OT burdened − regular burdened. That's what every overtime hour actually costs you above what a normal hour would.
